On Turning Eight

I joined, signed up to Second Life eight years ago today! Born Pituca Chang. Hard to believe but true. So many wonderful friends and I have seen so many wonderful creations.
I would also like to say Happy Eighth Rez Day to those I share this day with, Cristiano Midnight, Maggie Miller, Chibi Chang and especially to Fleabite Beach (that wonderful kitty who was my Maid of Honor in our SL and our RL wedding).
I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of our freebie store. Garth and I put all the content we made up for L$0 in early 2008. ‘Only The Best Will Do’. It is old but not shabby! Garth was prolific with all kinds of vehicles from morphing vehicles to bicycles. His scripting is peerless. He always said he wasn’t good at textures, but they are simple and clean. And the best running ones around.
His birds still soar over Second Life homes, so come pick up one for your place if you don’t yet have one!

Regions Are in Place

The Regions are all in place now. Dee Linden hitched up the Linden mules and dragged everything in place early this morning... Hahah Thanks Dee for all of your wonderful help.

She sent me this e-mail:

I have completed your island move request. Please allow the map up to 24 hours to update it's new location. You can get to it before the map finds it by specifying the island's name as your "Start Location" on the login screen (if you do not have this option, go into Preferences and it's on the General tab). You may also reach it via any adjacent regions on it's borders that have not moved.
For additional information and future reference, I am also including a helpful link to our Knowledge Base article about Estate and Private Region Moving and Renaming.

Harry FairChang will be going around checking the stitching together of the repositioned regions and fixing any that need it. Ray Weyland has also volunteered to join the 'Public Works' group to help.

Shifting Some Regions

As you may have heard I found it necessary relocate some residents and get rid of three of our regions, FairChang Paraiso, FairChang Palma and FairChang Village. I moved Garth's Church and his Memorial to the Community Park in Lido. Our home is now on the north side of our Lighthouse Store in FairChang Calypso SW.

The Lindens will be shifting some of our regions one to the west to plug the holes in our mini-continent of FairChang. I hope it might happen tomorrow. I worked hard over how best to shift the regions to make everyone happy.

I am putting up two maps showing FairChang as it is now:
edit! - I just now realized that I forgot to delete FairChang Palma, it went off grid on the 25th of March.

Public Works Projects

We have a Public Works Project now in FairChang! We are setting about to beautify our mini-continent. The first project was in the center of FairChang Caleta.

We took the center island off the market and it has been converted into a lovely little atoll with trees and a dock to enhance the view and for your boating pleasure.

Next on the list is FairChang Cabos, plans are to start on it today. We are working hard to upgrade the FairChang mini-continent for your pleasure. Help us to keep it strong and vital by telling your friends to come and join us in this great community.

There are five parcels available in Caleta, each is 4096m2 with a double prim allowance of 1874. L$12,250 to move in and the next tier is not due till a month after purchase. The tier is US$44 monthly via PayPal or you can pay the equivalent in L$ at one of our two ATMs.

Garth FairChang

I had the sad job of sending out this notice Sunday, September 6th to our SL FairChang Community.

"It is with regret that I have to tell you that Garth FairChang, my beloved partner, companion and RL husband lost his battle with pancreatic cancer this morning."

He was like a comet in my life, speeding through and touching every corner of my life and soul. I will miss him so much but know he is at peace now and waiting for me on the other side.

I want to thank all of you who have sent me messages of condolence and support, the outpouring has been phenomenal. He was a wonderful man and will be missed by all.

There has been a temporary memorial set up by SilverSilverSpike Decosta in FairChang Vista NW

Later I will put up a permanent marker for him in the churchyard that Garth made for me back in 2004.

We are sorry to tell all of you that we will not be able to attend the SLCC09. We so looked forward to seeing all our SL friends in RL and making some new friends!

As many of you know we had to cancel last year's road trip to attend SLCC08 in Tampa due to Garth's pancreatic cancer diagnosis on August 7th. We had to forgo our month's foray across the U.S. to start his tests and subsequent treatments.

Garth's focus has been to get to the SLCC this year and his wish was almost fulfilled. The roadtrip that I posted just a few days ago was changed to flying from Orange County to San Franciso. And the hotel changed to the St. Francis to make it easier on both of us to be able to get to our rooms for rest.

He had a set back last Sunday and we have had to cancel the travel plans.

Garth is saddened that he may never see his SL friends in RL again.

SLCC 2009

We are excited about the upcoming SLCC 2009 in San Francisco .We plan on driving up. It is only a little over 400 miles. We will take two days driving up and two driving back so we plan on being gone for a week. Of course our laptops and netbooks go with us so we will be in continuous touch with SL. Garth has managed to make the car into a mobile wireless spot!

We will probably stay here on the way up. We found this neat inexpensive motel a couple of years ago and usually take our break there.

We will not be staying at the The Westin St. Francis, we will stay at the Best Western Americania. We discovered it a few years ago as a centrally located and relatively inexpensive (for San Franciso) hotel.

Who all is going? I am looking forward to seeing some of you again and meeting some new residents also. If you see this fellow tooling around the Convention, stop and say hi as it is Garth!

Skyboxes and Atolls

While flying about photographing FairChang I noticed the amazing and original skyboxes here. Unfortunately there are a number of parcels that have no building or landscaping at ground level. It tends to give the sim a barren aspect. While this is in no way against our Covenant, I think with just a little bit of effort the area will be more attractive to the neighbors and all who pass by.

You could terraform the land into an atoll as shown in the two pictures below.

Of course you do not have to use so many trees and rocks if prims are an issue, One or two of the one prim Linden palm trees would be ideal.

The new feature of 'Sim Extensions or Off Shore Reefs' can also be used inside a sim. Some of them are smallish and of only four prims and are quite attractive. You can sink the entire parcel and then place one of the islands or grouping of rocks.

This is a picture of one of the rock groupings, only four prims and costs L$399. You can see it placed on the FairChang protected waterway in FairChang Cabos. They are phantom so you can just sail through!

This little island is L$199 and also is made up from four prims.

Buying Land on FairChang

Buying (or renting) land on private Estates can be very confusing as each Estate owner makes their own pricing rules.

Many of the Estate owners advertise their parcels for sale for L$1 but you must go and pay the tier on said land almost immediately. Which on a 4096m2 land plot might be around L$10000. So in reality the land has cost you a lot more than just L$1.

There are those Estates which ask a substantial purchase price (example: L$10,000) and offer to refund said purchase price if you immediately pay four weeks tier (example: L$7,000).

Of course some Estates require the purchase price (example: L$100) and also want the tier paid within a few hours. (example: L$8000 for 4 weeks)

Here on FairChang we have chosen a simple method with no strings attached. When buying from FairChang (Pituca FairChang) the land is set for sale in L$ for the amount of tier and when you buy tier is not due for one month. In other words you buy the land for the amount of the first months tier.

One month after buying a land on FairChang tier is then due to be paid either in US$ via PayPal on our website or in L$ at one of our three ATMs.

Yes we sell, not rent. Buying the land from FairChang means :

You can hold the land in your name

Deed it over to your group,

You can set up the media you want.

You can put your own picture in the Options tab on About Land

You can put the land in Classified if you so desire.

You can add to your own properties ban list

We also have our '7 day Return' policy. This means when buying from FairChang (Pituca FairChang), you have up to 7 days to change your mind and to ask for us to refund and take back the land.

When your monthly tier comes due you may pay in L$ at one of our ATMs or in US$ via PayPal. Both methods include a visit to one of our ATM machines. Upon purchasing your land you will receive a notecard from our For Sale sign with detailed help on paying your tier.

Visit the site (the ATM on FairChang Wharf is shown above) and left click (Touch) the ATM. It will show a blue menu in the top right corner of your screen (only you see this). It gives options. Choose 'Pay Land Tier'

It will then list all the land plots you own with a number beside them.

Example:
1 FairChang Kumori 14 L$4500
2 FairChang Cumbres 16 L$5850

In the above example the resident owns 2 plots of land. If they wish to pay the tier on 'FairChang Cumbres 16' they should press button number 2. If you only have one land plot. then just press button number 1.

Next the ATM will tell you the Land plot name, the US$ amount for that plot followed by the amount of L$ you need to pay and the time you have to do that. We limit the time the ATM will accept that payment only to limit the chances of anyone tampering with it.

Example:
FairChang.com ATM v1.1: Garth FairChang. You have choosen FairChang Puerto 7, 2048m2 single prim plot. The tier is US$16 which equals L$4500. Please right click the ATM and choose 'PAY' within the next 25 seconds.

Now right click the ATM and choose 'Pay...'. This will open a window where you pay. Click the button and your done :)

The very same ATMs can give you the Pin Pass (code number for only your account with us) you need to access the 'Owners' area of the website.

Find an ATM. Left click (Touch) the ATM and choose 'Get Pin Pass'. The ATM will tell you your Pin Pass. Write it down. Should you lose it you can do this step again and a new Pin Pass will be assigned for you.

Next the ATM will offer you a link to the login page of the owners area on our website. page.

or go to http://www.fairchang.com and click the '>OWNERS' link near the top right of the page.

You then use your Second Life name and Pin Pass to login and see the list of land you own on FairChang.

Click the Paypal Icon beside the plot you wish to pay. This will take you to Paypal secure page (not on our website) to setup a subscription to pay the land tier each month.
If you click the land plot name, instead of Paypal icon, you will open a page giving details for that land plot.

Alternative Paypal method:

You can use Paypal to pay us direct each month. payment@fairchang.com is our paypal email address. You will need to do this every month around the same day of the month.

Click the Paypal Icon beside the plot you wish to pay.

Beautiful Islands Available

Since the Jack Linden announced that they would be holding the line on tiers on the Homestead sims until July 2010 it is looking to be a great time to own your own little (or big) tropical island on a Homestead sim.

We currently have two 3072m² parcels, one is FairChang Neptuno 3 and the other is
FairChang Ria 1. There are only four islands on each sim. Each island has 703 prims to use. Only L$6,900 (includes first month's tier) gets you settled there and then the tier is US$25 monthly. (guesstimate of L$6,900 monthly depending on LindeX).

FairChang Evolution

Back in the spring of 2004 when Linden Labs decided to allow the residents of Second Life buy their own regions we bought FairChang Island and placed it next to Higbee Protaganist's Kumori and Princess Medici's Amaterasu. We formed amongst us the Oceana Archipelago. Soon we were joined by several others to form a group of over 10 islands. We were located just below the group of Sandboxes that are next to Abbotts. Later that year we bought FairChang Project, which Garth mostly used for testing.

From the very beginning we were dedicated to offering space for people to rez their boats and enjoy sailing around

We didn't decide to get into the selling of virtual land parcels until the fall of 2006 after the Linden's implemented the ability to sell land on Private Estates... prior to that only renting was possible.

We changed the name of FairChang Project to FairChang Resort and that was the start of our wonderful community. We now number over 50 regions and we continue with making our communities waterways available to all to use.
